Heat Press Troubleshooting with Supacolor

Hey, Supafam! In this blog, we’re going to help you troubleshoot your heat press to ensure perfect application of your heat transfers every time. If you’re experiencing issues with pressing, follow these steps to dial in your heat press for optimal performance.

Step 1: Proper Garment Placement

First and foremost, check the placement of your garment. Ensure that the collar is off the edge of the platen. If the collar is on the platen, it won’t provide a proper press area and will leave an unsightly ring on the back of your shirt.

Step 2: Setting the Right Pressure

Proper pressure is crucial for a successful heat transfer. To adjust your pressure:

  1. Push in your platen.

  2. Adjust the pressure knob until you can’t close it anymore.

  3. Loosen it just a tiny bit until you achieve the correct pressure.

Once the pressure is set, pre-press your garment to remove any moisture and create a smooth pressing area.

Step 3: Placing Your Transfer and Pressing

Place your transfer on the garment, then cover it with a Teflon sheet or a curing sheet of your choice. Press at 320°F for 15 seconds. This ensures that the transfer adheres properly to the fabric.

Step 4: Peeling and Post-Pressing

After the press cycle, remove the Teflon sheet and peel the transfer instantly. Next, place the Teflon sheet back on and do a post-press for 3 to 5 seconds. This locks in the transfer and ensures it doesn’t stick to the top of the press.

Step 5: Checking Heat Distribution

To ensure your heat press is distributing heat evenly, use a laser thermometer gun. Point it at each of the four quadrants on the top platen to check if the temperature matches the readout on your heat press. If there’s a discrepancy, adjust the temperature up or down as needed and contact your heat press manufacturer for further assistance.

By following these troubleshooting steps, you can ensure your heat press is functioning correctly and that your heat transfers are appled perfectly every time. At Supacolor, we’re dedicated to helping you achieve the best results with your heat transfer projects.
